Our Approach

AFSL is built on three core pillars that ensure organisations receive the right support, at the right time, with lasting value.

Capability – We provide comprehensive financial services, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, grants management, and financial training, supported by modern cloud-based systems and specialist expertise.

Capacity – Acting as an extension of your team, we deliver flexible and scalable support that adapts to your organisation's needs, providing continuity, specialist knowledge, and relief from administrative burden.

Value – We help organisations improve efficiency, reduce costs, and build long-term financial capability, enabling greater focus on mission, impact, and outcomes.

A Purpose-Driven Partner

AFSL is a wholly owned subsidiary of the charitable trust, Aktive. This means that all profits are reinvested into Aktive’s vision to make Tāmaki Makaurau the world’s most active city, supporting healthier people, stronger communities, and greater equity through sport and physical activity.

By partnering with AFSL, you not only gain access to high-quality financial services, you also contribute to meaningful social impact across Auckland.

Foundation North-Funded Financial Capability Support for Sport and Recreation Organisations

Aktive has secured funding from Foundation North to deliver tailored accounting services to selected not-for-profit and charitable sport and recreation organisations across Tāmaki Makaurau and Te Tai Tokerau.

Community organisations face increasing operational and compliance demands, often with limited resources. Delivered through Aktive Finance Services Limited (AFSL), Aktive's specialist accounting services organisation, this support aims to strengthen financial systems and capability, helping organisations become more sustainable and focus on delivering positive outcomes for their communities.

Organisations Based in Counties Manukau and Waitākere

Counties Manukau and Waitākere have been identified as priority areas for this funding. We are seeking expressions of interest from eligible not-for-profit and charitable sport, recreation, and community organisations interested in strengthening their financial capability.

While funding is limited and support cannot be guaranteed, we encourage organisations interested in strengthening their financial systems and processes to get in touch. We also encourage Regional Sports Organisations and other sector partners to share this information with affiliated clubs and community organisations that may benefit.

Available Services

Support may include:

  • Migration to the Xero cloud-based accounting and payroll system
  • Grant accountability and financial reporting
  • Accounting support, including bookkeeping, management reporting, annual financial statements, and audit liaison
  • Budgeting and forecasting to strengthen planning and decision-making
  • Customised real-time reporting and dashboards
  • Financial capability development through workshops and targeted training
  • Streamlined invoice approval processes and workflow automation
  • Advice on Xero add-ons for payroll, payment approvals, board reporting, and other tools that improve efficiency
  • Three months free Xero subscription fees to support initial setup.

Stronger Organisations, Greater Community Impact

Funding is limited and demand may exceed the resources available, with priority given to organisations looking to migrate to cloud-based systems. Organisations that express interest will be contacted to discuss their needs and assess whether support can be provided through the programme. Participation is therefore not guaranteed, and assistance will be allocated based on eligibility, need, and available funding.

If your organisation, or an organisation you work with, may be interested in this opportunity, please email jacob.driver@aktive.org.nz by 30 October 2026 to register your interest.
